The State of Mendix Developer Community 2023 is the first-ever survey developed by Mendix to understand the developer community's landscape. The report has brought forward exciting insights that shed light on the practices, preferences, and collaborative efforts of over 700 Mendix developers across 50+ countries. Let's delve into the key findings reshaping the narrative of modern software development.
Low-Code Dominance
An astonishing 73% of developers who fulfill the survey revealed that they predominantly or exclusively use low-code solutions, which indicates the growing influence and efficiency of low-code platforms in the hands of developers and how businesses are investing in application development platforms for their operations.
Diverse Educational Backgrounds
Contrary to conventional expectations, only 31% of developers have a Computer Science degree. The report highlights that one-fourth of developers are self-taught, underlining individuals' diverse paths to excel in the dynamic technology field.
We assume that Mendix can attract future developers from a diverse audience who don’t necessarily need previous formal computer science skills to make an impact.
Collaboration at its Core
The spirit of collaboration is thriving, with 47% of low-code software developers actively participating in cross-functional IT and Business teams. We can see here the importance of breaking down silos and fostering a collaborative environment for more effective and efficient development processes, as Mendix’s capability to promote and facilitate the communication between Business and IT roles within the companies.
“When business roles work with rather than around IT, this mitigates the use of shadow IT and while strengthening the tangible value of the app portfolio.”
